Operational : How do I authenticate users against Active Directory?

To authenticate users against active directory please follow this procedure;.

  1. Log into the EPS using an EPS administrator account.
  2. Select the "Authentication" option under the "Users" heading in the menu on the left of the page.
  3. Select "Create New Source".
  4. Select "Active Directory (Using Domains)".
  5. Enter a new for the source (this can be anything you want), the domain to authenticate to (e.g. if your users are XYZ\abc you should enter XYZ), and the DNS addresses for your domain controllers, and click "Save Configuration".
  6. Select "Create" under the "Users" heading in the menu on the left of the page.
  7. Enter the details for the user ensuring that the EPS user has same username as the user has in active directory (e.g. if the user is XYZ\abc in AD you would create a user called abc in the EPS) and click "Create".
  8. Select the authentication source name you chose for the Active Directory authentication source from the drop down list beside the "Authenticate By" label.
  9. Select "Update Details".

The user should now be able to log in using the Active Directory password. If the users password in AD differs from their EPS password the user will be presented with a synchronization page upon login, this is neccessary in order to maintain the security model for the EPS.
